Humanitarian Trauma-Sensitive Reporting
An initiative to advance ethical, trauma-informed approaches to documenting survivors’ experiences.
Introduction
Effective documentation of crisis-affected experiences requires sensitivity, sound judgment, and a clear understanding of trauma. Yet testimony is often gathered without the skills or awareness needed to protect those who share their stories. Humanitarian Trauma-Sensitive Reporting (HTSR) is an initiative by Daniel Benjamin Wheeler to advance ethical, trauma-informed approaches to documenting people affected by crisis. Drawing on more than a decade of frontline reporting and training across multiple conflict and humanitarian settings, Wheeler has developed practices that support greater care in how stories are sought, handled, and shared, recognising the responsibility carried by anyone working with individuals and communities who have experienced crisis.
